BIENNIAL ART SHOW
FIPAP’s 1st Biennial Art Show was held in 1987 at a private home in Fire Island Pines. Artists living in the community exhibited and sold their work. Among the luminaries that participated in these shows were David Hockney, Paul Cadmus, Lowell Nesbitt, Mark Beard, Scott Bromley and Barbara Sahlman. In recent years, the list of artists exhibiting has expanded to include artists from neighboring Fire Island communities as well as Long Island and New York City.
ONLINE ART SALE AND AUCTION
In 2020, in response to the Covid pandemic, FIPAP held its first Online Art Sale and Auction, which has become another biennial event that reaches art enthusiasts beyond our community.
ARTIST OF THE YEAR AWARD
Barbara Sahlman was a resident and a sculptor whose legacy includes work that now sits in prominent homes of art collectors in the Pines and beyond. She served on the FIPAP Board of Directors for almost twenty years and assisted in producing not only the Biennial Art Show but was also instrumental in developing FIPAP’s Artist in Residency Program, as well as participating in all our other arts events. Barbara passed away in 2020.
To honor her legacy and her devotion to the arts, The Barbara Sahlman Artist of the Year Award was established in 2021 to recognize a successful Pines resident artist who has contributed to and supported the community over the years. This award is given at the Biennial Art Show.
